Fringey finds Fielding!

Mission Impossible? I think not!

'The Fringey – Make a Wish – Foundation' had its first successful mission on Saturday 5th November at the Barfly. We were assigned with bringing together a random member of the public (ok, a fringey little sister) and a famo. - The sleb in question being Mr Noel Fielding of Mighty Boosh fame.

When Fringey recently heard he going to dj at the Barfly, calls were made and tickets were purchased, for what turned out to be a rather enjoyable evening of music and dancing. This culminated in a tense 20 minutes of 'hanging around', before the *successful touching* of a famo by our first 'Make a Wish' beneficiary!

And we have pictures!

There were bonus points all round with Mr Alex Zane there, also doing the dj thing. - And you know how crowded the barfly can get on a saturday night. - Oh yes, there was much famo brushing throughout the evening.

If you too would like to stand next to/touch a sleb please email and let us know. We may be able to make it happen! Although the Fringey Foundation can only promise to put you in the same room as the famo in question. (this is, after all, what fringey is best at!). Anything else is up to you.

Not a lot people know this...

...but Michael Cain is a big fan of electrical goods.

Well at least he was pretty engrossed in the window display of an electrical store when I saw him one September lunchtime on the Road of Tottenham Court. I saw Michael bloody Cain. Oh yes I did la la la la- that's got to be worth of a whole heap of points, right?

ps this totally made up for the fact that I'd also seen Big Brother's Nasty Nick Batement earlier on- ewwwww.

Seb & Jesse DFA1979 - Astoria - 16th May 2005

This was at the Futureheads gig in the Astoria. They were stood at the bar behind the lighting desk. - Yes, that's right, down with the rest of the punters and not up on the VIP balcony bit.

Fringey might not have recognised them separately, but together they are an easy spot, even though Seb Grainger had his all new mohican style hair cut.

a lovely visual treat.
(that'll be Sebastian, not Jesse)

Bernard Butler - ULU - 3rd November 2005

  • He was at the bar in ULU getting a drink before the Cribs came on stage. (He's produced one of the tracks on their new single, so why he exclaimed "this wasn't what I expected" I don't know. Maybe he was talking about queue for the bar being 5 deep.)
  • he was wearing a duffle coat, and it was boiling.
  • his hair was very dry and out of condition, looked like he'd washed it in the sea!
  • I don't think any of the young whippersnappers who'd come to see the Cribs had a clue who he was, although he's aged alot better than the 'other one'.
  • It took me 20 minutes to get served, and him only 10 minutes - and I'm a GIRL!! Outrageous.
  • His arm brushed my arm. A genuine Fringey brush with a famo!

Paul Weller - Hammersmith Apollo - June 2005

A very sweaty and disheveled Weller was spotted at the Kings of Leon gig, trying to get served at the upstairs bar - without actually touching any of the other punters!

It was the hottest day of the summer and his beautiful feather haircut was plastered to his head. Fringey just pushed past him - its every man and rock star for themselves when it comes to getting served at the bar - but some sap eventually bought him a drink.

Kele Okereke - Bardens Boudoir - August 2005

This was at a Test Icicles gig and Bardens Boudoir is a very tiny, very hot venue. There were no pretentious shoreditch tossers in sight, so Fringey was surprised to see that Kele Okeykokey from Bloc Party was squished next to us in the crowd.

He was working the foreign student look by wearing a backpack capable of carrying at least 5 textbooks and looseleaf folder.

Oh and he wasn't able to see anything either.

Morrissey and Kelly O - Astoria - March 2005

Spotted on the VIP balcony in the Astoria at the Bright Eyes gig were Morrissey and Kelly Osbourne - deep in conversation for about half an hour - what on earth did they have to talk about??

Morrissey left about two songs into the Bright Eyes set, so he probably only came along to see support act Rilo Kiley.
